RECLICKS Center for Research and Education in Climate Finance in association with the Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center (PYC) and IPB Centre for Applied Research in Nature-based Solutions (I-CAN), supported by the FINCAPES Project.

Project Overview

The Flood Impacts, Carbon Pricing, and Ecosystem Sustainability (FINCAPES) project is a collaborative, gender-responsive initiative funded by Global Affairs Canada. Over a 5.5-year period, jointly undertaken between institutional partners in Indonesia and the University of Waterloo’s Faculty of Mathematics and Faculty of Environment, the project supports Indonesia in adapting to climate change, mitigating its impacts, and conserving biodiversity in a socially and economically sustainable manner.

One of the FINCAPES Project components is designed to support Indonesia in addressing the increasing challenges and opportunities brought about by climate change, with a particular focus on climate finance. Under this component, FINCAPES is collaborating with the Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center (PYC) to establish and operationalize a Center of Excellence for Climate Finance Policy, Research, and Training (RECLICKS). This center strives to play a vital role in overcoming the financial challenges of climate action in Indonesia, particularly in achieving the country’s energy transition targets. Through the development of innovative financial mechanisms,  capacity  building,  research,  and  policy advocacy,  the  collaboration seeks  to  empower communities, governments, policymakers, researchers, and industry stakeholders to drive the energy transition forward.

The “Climate Finance for Indonesia’s Renewable Energy Transition” research program is being undertaken by RECLICKS to support collaborative applied research in the fields of energy policy, climate finance and carbon markets. As well, the “CLICKS” program under the centre’s umbrella is developing professional and public education materials and conducting outreach activities related to climate finance and renewable energy transition.

As a Climate Finance-Renewable Energy Research and Communicatons Analyst, you will support the RECLICKS team in a range of roles: reviewing research project proposals related to Indonesia’s renewable energy transition; supporting targeted research initiatives in geothermal renewable energy and carbon markets; developing climate finance and renewable energy transition education and outreach materials (in a variety of media and using various platforms); and supporting campus outreach events (such as short courses, workshops and presentations) in and outside of Jakarta, Indonesia.

This role provides a unique opportunity to contribute to impactful work that aligns with global efforts to tackle climate change, enhance environmental sustainability, and promote social equity. You will be part of a dynamic, multi-stakeholder project that directly supports application of research and communications expertise to further adoption of renewable energy at scale and address climate, health and economic policy issues.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Assist in Research Project Methodology Development: Support the development of applied research projects (concept and research objectives, stakeholder mapping, research plan, research knowledge products beyond academic publications).
  2. Analysis of Research Project Proposals: Assist in developing assessment grids, and reviewing research proposals involving a wide range of social and “hard” science disciplines.
  3. Support Targeted Research: In collaboration with Research Leads and Team Members, undertake specific research assignments (e.g., literature reviews and syntheses, data mining, quantitative and qualitative data analysis) drawing on the skills and interests that you bring to the assignment.
  4. Prepare Communications and Outreach Materials: Working with the CLICKS education and knowledge sharing team, develop and target audience test climate finance and renewable energy transition materials – targeted to Indonesian audiences.
  5. Support campus outreach events: This may involve travel to sites outside of Jakarta (with travel expenses covered) to meet with stakeholder groups (e.g., high school and higher education students, faculty, professional associations) and support delivery of short courses or workshops.

In this position, you will gain hands-on experience in application of economic, carbon emission, and financial (business-case) models to inform government and business decisions within a collaborative, multi-stakeholder project, participate in a project that supports Indonesia’s climate change mitigation goals and global climate finance efforts.
